I would like to offer you a warm welcome to Roma State College which caters for Prep to Year 12. As the Principal of this college, I am proud of the students, staff and community that I work with every day. It is my pleasure to give you some key information about our college and the amazing opportunities that our students can engage with whilst being a member of our school community.
Our college has a proud history, shining academically, socially and in a range of sporting pursuits. Our college, P-12, opened in 2006 and offers students a modern, learner driven experience which caters for all, from Phonics to physics, from STEM to Agriculture Studies and all subjects in between.
As the Principal I have the privilege of working across all three campuses, which include:
Junior – Prep to Yr 2
Middle – Yrs 3-6
Senior – Yrs 7-12
I get to share with students and staff, the amazing work that is being done across every classroom, celebrating student successes and helping with learning. I particularly enjoy reading with students of all ages, as we know this is a critical focus from Prep all the way through to Year 12, and beyond as students pursue pathways into university, TAFE, apprenticeships and many other work opportunities.
So now for some information about the college.
Our college allows for seamless transitions across all levels of schooling, and our staff often work closely across sectors to ensure we are promoting regular opportunities for students to work with each other between campuses.
We focus on high expectations for all, including academic achievement, behaviour, personal growth and wellbeing. We acknowledge those who demonstrate and commit to our expectations and assist those who need support to meet our expectations. We work closely with parents and community organisations to ensure we work as a strong 'team' to support our students.
Our staff are motivated and passionate about teaching and learning and develop strong caring relationships with their students, supporting them to achieve the best possible outcomes. Our staff work tirelessly for students and demonstrate great innovation and 'out of the box' thinking to ensure students are given every opportunity to engage with and succeed within the curriculum. We work with the Australian Curriculum to ensure our teachers are providing a quality, high standard of education to the students in our care. We also moderate, by comparing work samples to ensure that our standards are like those across other schools in Queensland.
Our senior students are committed to making the most of the many possibilities that are on offer, and we have great connections with local businesses who support our students with work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships. We value the support we receive and know that the owners of these businesses are helping us build the workforce of the future for Roma and many other communities where our students choose to live.
Ultimately, we offer a culture of care, support and high expectations for students, creating an environment in which those in our care can thrive academically, socially and in the sporting arena. We believe in every student's potential, and sometimes the hardest part is getting the young person themselves to see the amazing outcomes they are capable of.
Our parents and Citizens Association consist of a willing band of parents and community members who go above and beyond to support all students and staff in our college. Joining this team is a great way to meet new people, keep abreast of what is happening in the college and have a say in our future direction. Please consider joining our P and C, by attending our monthly meetings. They are always entertaining.
Please know that we care, and we are proud of our students, our staff, our community and the important role we play in shaping our future citizens.
Personally, as the Principal of Roma State College, I enjoy working with our students to help them see where education can take them, I enjoy working with parents, as partners in their child's future and I love the living in the community, knowing that people value education for their children.
On behalf of all, I cordially invite you to become part of the Roma State College community and see how we can help your young people grow and thrive in a strong environment based on high expectations, positive culture and quality teaching and learning.
Roma State College is the place to be.
Regards
Monique Pfingst
