Roma State College Representation Policy
The following guidelines have been adopted by Roma State College to ensure that all participants in College events have a safe and supportive learning experience.
It is important to understand that at Roma State College, we continually encourage consistent, positive behaviour and therefore a student will not be eligible to participate in the extra-curricular activities if any of the following circumstances exist:
- Non-Payment of Student Resource Scheme fees – if this fee is not paid in full or payment plan arrangements have not been satisfied at the date of the event.
- Absences – if the student has three or more unexplained absences in the week prior to the event and/or a history of unexplained absences.
- Assessment – if a student has incomplete or outstanding assessment.
- Behaviour - a student is currently on suspension.
School Sport
Ripper Skippers
Ripper Skippers is a performance based skipping team that has existed at Roma State College for over 30 years. The team is made up of students from both Middle and Senior Campus. Over the school year, the Ripper Skippers practice a variety of skills to develop new routines to perform at events. In previous years the Ripper Skippers have performed at several schools within the region, The Big Rig Opening day, Maranoa Christmas Street Party along with other school functions. Students build a whole range of physical skills along with the benefits of working within a team across year levels.
The Ripper Skippers are run by Miss Sarah Bond and there will be trials for Ripper Skippers during term 1 2024.
All Schools Touch
Queensland All Schools Touch is the largest Touch Football tournament in the world. The competition runs in early October and has students from all over Queensland along with interstate and international teams. Roma State College has consistently been competing for more than 10 years.
As nomination for the competition opens early in the school year, trials for the team open in term 1. In recent years, Roma State College has had an 18 years team, with students from grades 9-12 participating. The RSC team has participated in the local competition over the year to develop their skills before heading to the carnival in term 4. Students nominate to Mr Ross Vickers at the start of the year and a team will be formed based on student interest.
Volleyball
Students at Senior Campus have the opportunity to participate in school Volleyball teams and have represented RSC at Volleyball Queensland tournaments such as – Junior Schools' Cup, Intermediate Schools' Cup and Senior Schools' Cup, which are annual events. The school Volleyball teams also represent RSC at the Darling Downs Schools' Cup at Harristown SHS each year, in September or October.
The school team/s typically start weekly training sessions at the beginning of the year and increase these sessions when tournaments are upcoming.
Volleyball is a great team sport building on fundamental movement skills and students with all skill levels are encouraged to participate. The students really enjoy opportunities to travel away, compete against other schools and represent the school with pride.
