In week 5 of Term 3, our Year 9 & 10 students went to Camp
Fairbairn Outdoor Education Centre and participated in a range of activities to
build their teamwork, resilience and problem solving skills. Students completed
a 4 kilometre canoe across Fairbairn Dam where they needed to work together and
communicate with one another. They also
challenged themselves on the high ropes course where they had to support each
other by controlling safety equipment and providing positive encouragement to
each other. The campers participated in group challenge activities where they
problem solved different challenges in a whole team environment to develop
teamwork and leadership capabilities. Students had an enjoyable time working in
small groups to navigate a course of 100 markers throughout the Fairbairn
bushland. The task was to use a basic map to locate as many markers across the
area as they could.
The students did a wonderful job of self-maintaining
their campsite. This included keeping their tent area tidy as well as prepping,
cooking and cleaning for all meals. Miss Kramer and Miss Matthews were
impressed with the level of respect, maturity and cooperation our students
displayed. It was fantastic to see the leadership potential within this great
group of students.
