Year 12 Geography and Biology Field Trip

On the 1st – 3rd of April the Year 12 Geography and Biology students travelled to North Keppel Island to undertake in a field study. On the three day trip the students took part in many fun activities such as snorkelling, bush walking, ghost crab catching and an intertidal reef walk. In addition, the students collected data for their assessment and completed both a dune profile and vegetation transect.
Whilst on the field trip the students were presented with the exciting opportunity to use the drone kindly donated by Santos in 2018. The footage and photos captured on the drone assisted the students by strengthening their educational outcomes for assessment, as well as developing their ICT capabilities. The drone also allowed students to observe sites on the island inaccessible previously by foot. Furthermore, Roma State College would like to thank Santos for donating to us this exciting piece of technology that will provide both staff and students with invaluable learning experiences and opportunities in many years to come!
All students thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre and certainly learnt a lot about the ways we can protect and sustain our environment and native biodiversity for the future.
