Roma State College Behaviour Management Plan for Students
RATIONALE
Roma State College upholds a commitment to quality education through the promotion and consistent implementation of its Behaviour Management Plan. This plan, developed collaboratively through consultation with the various members of the school community (teachers, school officers, parents, students and school support personnel), reflects not only the values and beliefs of this localised group, but also upholds the basic principles and guidelines of departmental policy. The practices within are consistent with Professional Standards for Teachers (National and State), Principles of Effective Teaching and Learning, the National Safe Schools Framework, and the philosophies of Inclusivity relating to gender, culture and disability.
Emphasis throughout the document is not only on necessary compliance to acceptable social standards of behaviour that promote a supportive and safe learning and working environment, but on the promotion and development of self-responsibility in all school community members, encouraging personal accountability for behaviour and the ability to translate responsible behaviour throughout contexts within and outside the school environment. Like other key learning areas in the school curriculum, socially-responsible and appropriate behaviour is viewed as a vital skill that can lead to success in both the workforce and in life. Through the implementation of the Behaviour Management Plan, this skill is addressed and developed both discretely (as a stand-alone curriculum topic) and intrinsically (within other curriculum contexts).

We promote our four ‘Be Statements’ –

.
SCHOOL BELIEFS ABOUT BEHAVIOUR AND LEARNING
At Roma State College School, our Vision is the promotion and development of a safe and supportive environment in which all people are:
Ä Actively engaged in learning
Ä Focused upon positive communications with all stakeholders in the learning process
Ä Self-managing
Ä Aware of the rights and responsibilities of all school community members
At Roma State College School, we believe that, despite the diversity of school community members and the wide range of contexts within and outside the school itself, there are common underlying behaviour expectations that govern all social behaviour. It is therefore possible to establish a School Code of Behaviour that can be accepted by all school community members as fair and equitable, and which is consistent not only with expectations of students in the classroom or school playground but also in the home and wider community. This behaviour code promotes and reinforces the baseline principles and values of (Education Department), the National Safe Schools Framework and the National Framework for Values Education.
Roma State College Code of Behaviour
The code of behaviour is organised as a matrix displaying our four school values:
Ä Be Committed to Learning
Ä Be Respectful
Ä Be Responsible
Ä Be Safe
The School day is broken down into four identifiable periods:
Ä Learning Time
Ä Break Time
Ä Out of School Time
Ä Transition Time
Identifiable behaviours, that reflect the school values, are categorised according to whether they would be observed in learning time, break time, out of school time and transition time.
The code of behaviour is to be displayed in all classrooms and in student diaries. The values and behaviours that reflect these values are to be explicitly taught in the formalised curriculum (PDA). The code of behaviour is to be taught and modelled in all other classes through processes emphasising positive reinforcement of these behaviours and restorative justice when these values are not being demonstrated.
